1996: DENVER “THE TRADITION BEGINS”
The boys arrive at LAX at 6am where this justifiably dubious-looking bartender had the honor of serving up the very first Paloozian beverages (bloodies).
Sean and Craig move from breakfast bloodies and head straight to the hard stuff.
Just minutes beyond the airport, Big Al begins what would become an annual tradition of nearly perpetual napping.
Sean spending some quality time with Pete Coors as we await the start of the Coors Brewery Tour.
Every Paloozian worth his salt knows the delightful aroma of hops and barley that emanate from this room.
After some quality time at the Coors Tasting Lounge, the Paloozians head across town to take in a Rockies game versus the Astros.
Al dives into the beginning of the ill-fated Rocky Mountain Oyster eating tradition. There’s just something about that snap that keeps you coming back for more.
Our seats at the front of the Rockpile gave Sean ideal proximity for getting the Astros centerfielder a bit riled up. Shortly thereafter, the Rockies stormed back for a 6-3 win.
The highly-ranked Buffs and Ralphie take the field in a rematch of their 1994 classic vs the Michigan Wolverines.
The Golden Buffaloes join together at mid-field to get the crowd fired up before kick-off in what will prove to be the highlight of the game.
Nothing quite matches the start of a key Buffs game at Folsom.
Buffs legend, Quarterback Koy Detmer surveys the field and Michigan’s stout defense.
The Buffs take it on the chin in this one, marking the beginning of the end for young Skippy Neuweasel.
The game ends in a torrential rainstorm—but that doesn’t keep Dean from giving the local faithful a glimpse of their savior after the game.
Before making their way to Denver for some Broncos action, Sean, Al and Craig take a trip up Flagstaff Mountain to get a better view of Boulder.
The boys decide to make things official and take this lovely photo of them gathered around the actual flagstaff.
Al soaks in the Broncos-Bucs game with a quick nippy nap and confirmation that he knows we’re taking a pic of him in action. The Broncos move to 3-0 with an easy 27-23 win.
Dean’s friends from Telluride show up the same weekend as Colopalooza. They’re perfect gentlemen the first two nights, offering to sleep on the floor. Not so much on night #3. In the time it took a Jack-fueled Cuddles to utter “Get the f**k off my bed”, we packed and split for Breckenridge.
Having survived possible strangulation by Cuddles & The Bear, along with a Smalls sleepwalking binge for the ages, the Paloozians are able to get in a little trout fishing before heading home. A great first Palooza.
