2012: PORTLAND “ROGUE NATION”
-
DAY 1: PALOOZA #17 STAYS WEST
The 2012 Palooza will be one of our shortest—just four days in Portland. But rest assured that your heroes make the best of their time there.
-
DAY 1: PALOOZIANS HAVE LANDED
The Paloozians arrive in Portland, ready for woodland battle.
-
DAY 1: OPENING BEERS
Arriving 10 minutes early, B-Luv is parked in the hotel lobby waiting for us with beers in hand.
-
DAY 1: FREAK SHOW
With the new panorama shot feature on the iPhone, it’s hard to tell who looks freakier—Sean with his demon face or the cyclops behind him.
-
DAY 1: ROGUE BREWING
Our first stop was the Rogue Brewpub for some beers. Rogue has a huge menu of beer options.
-
DAY 1: PINT OF ROGUE
They also have some pretty cool graphics on their cans and pint glasses.
-
DAY 1: MILO CRACKS UP
Hold still, Milo—this pictrure will be perfect for your LinkedIn profile.
-
DAY 1: DESCHUTES BREWERY
After Rogue, the Paloozians move on to Deschutes, which has great beer and food. The boys dig into a few Mirror Pond Ales.
-
DAY 1: WOODLAND ANIMALS
The main Deschutes in Portand is made with huge wooden beams, out of which are carved a large variety of woodland animals. Hello, beaver!
-
DAY 1: POWELL'S BOOKS
After dinner, the boys move on to check out Powell’s Books.
-
DAY 1: TIME TO REPORT IN
Al reporting on our every move outside Powell's.
-
DAY 1: PRETTY IN PINK
The Paloozians cap off a solid first day by catching The Psychadelic Furs at the Aladdin Theater—an old vaudeville theater from the 1920’s.
-
DAY 2: PRACTICING VOODOO
The lads swing into day two with a trip to partake in the sugary goodness of Portland’s famous VooDoo Doughnuts.
-
DAY 2: LOTS OF OPTIONS
VooDoo offers over 50 artisan flavors—all of them imaginatively iced. It’s hard to settle on just 1 or 2 so you naturally end up getting a whole box.
-
DAY 2: DOUGHNUT + CEREAL
The Paloozians strongly encourage B-Luv to opt for the subtly-named “cock and balls” but he opts for the delightfully cute “fruit loop”.
-
DAY 2: THE CROWN JEWEL
Here is Craig’s Bacon Maple Bar, a combination that was invented right here at VooDoo and then stolen by every doughnut maker in the world. It is quite literally America’s Greatest Doughnut.
-
DAY 2: PALOOZIAN FOUNDERS
Craig & Allie are looking quite content after wolfing down about 2800 calories worth of pure sugar and gooey perfection.
-
DAY 2: AL REPORTING TO DUTY
As if he was once hypnotized to automatically sleep in moving vehicles, Al is off to dreamland as the Paloozians head to the wilderness.
-
DAY 2: WATERFALLS
After a short drive, the Palonzians reach one of the nicest waterfalls in the country--the multi-level Multnomah Falls.
-
DAY 2: PALOOZIANS IN THE WILD
The Paloozians take a short break on their hike up to the top of the falls for a group pic.
-
DAY 2: HELLO DOWN THERE!
The view from the top of the falls with the parking lot far down below.
-
DAY 2: SESSION BREWERY TOUR
After hiking up Multnomah, the boys head further east to Hood River, home to one of their favorite breweries—Session. Here’s our tour guide explaining their intricate brewing schedule.
-
DAY 2: HUNDREDS OF BEERS
Stacks upon stacks of their flagship brew—Session Lager.
-
DAY 2: BEERS AND LAUGHS
After the tour, the boys settle in at Session Brewpub for some malted beverages and a bite to eat. Here are Milo & Sean having a good laugh.
-
DAY 2: THE FOOL
Sean finally agrees to give Craig what he’s looking for—a classic pic.
-
DAY 2: OUTSIDE THE BREWPUP
The view of the Columbia River, which passes right through Hood River.
-
DAY 2: DEEP IN THOUGHT
Fueled by Session lagers, you can see the wheels already turning as Smalls begins to plan Palooza 2013. What do you think of Dallas, boys?
-
DAY 2: PORTLAND NEON
On the drive back to Portland, cruising past the Old Town neon.
-
DAY 2: PALOOZIAN WOOD
Upon our return to Portland, the boys hit the The Doug Fir Lounge for some music. Lets just say there was whole lotta wood involved.
-
DAY 2: AMAZING BAR
The Doug Fir is a must see in Portland. It might be the coolest looking bar the Paloozians have ever seen. Like if the Log Palace were a bar.
-
DAY 2: ALT FOLK INDIE GRUNGE
Your standard, bearded PNW alt-rock, indie + banjo dude kinda band Is cranking out some solid tunes all night.
-
DAY 3: SATURDAY BREAKFAST
Two dudes who probably belong behind, not in front of bars, patiently wait for the highly anticipated breakfast at a place called “Gravy”.
-
DAY 3: GRAVY DELIVERS
Needless to say, you don’t bust out and go to a place called “Gravy” and then order the Egg White and Spinach Frittata.
-
DAY 3: BEERS AT TAYLOR'S
After breakfast, the boys head to Eugene for the Oregon game. It feels like they’re hanging out at Bill’s house all afternoon when they pre-game at Taylor’s Bar & Grill.
-
DAY 3: PACKED HOUSE
Taylor’s has been a campus watering hole since 1922, so it’s a popular stop for fans looking to enjoy a beer or two beers before the big game.
-
DAY 3: OH NO!
Sean unleashes the terrifying finger of doom in combination with the pinky ring curl of dismay. A truly apoplectic finger warning.
-
DAY 3: WHATEVS
Milo and Craig are not at all concerned by this turn of events.
-
DAY 3: WALK TO THE GAME
The Paloozians walk across the leafy OU campus toward Autzen Stadium.
-
DAY 3: TONGUE WAGGING
Bill re-enacts his previous night with Al on the walk over to the game.
-
DAY 3: ACROSS THE RIVER
The Paloozians follow a crowded stream of Ducks fans to the game.
-
DAY 3: PICTURESQUE WALK
The walk to Autzen is like a nature hike. Here the Paloozians cross the Willamette River, the water source for many a bottle of Pinot Noir.
-
DAY 3: AUTZEN STADIUM
The Paloozians finally reach their destination. It’s game time!
-
DAY 3: MODERN ART
So apparently Jesus is a Ducks fan. Who knew?
-
DAY 3: MILO AT AUTZEN
Milando looks ready to get inside and check out some college football.
-
DAY 3: OREGON 52 - WASHINGTON 21
If you ever get a chance to see an Oregon game, take it. Great crowd and very convenient. Tonight the Ducks romp over the Huskies en route to a near-miss 12-1 record and Fiesta Bowl win.
-
DAY 4: SUNDAY BRUNCH
Allie settles in for a little southern breakfast at The Screen Door to start our final day
-
DAY 4: WIDMER GASTHAUS
The Portland Paloozians bid you farewell from the final brewery they visit before hitting the airport. Until next year!
