1998: DENVER “LOS FAJITAS POR FAVOR”
Each year, the first order of business is to find some long-haired beauty and anoint her “Miss Colopalooza”. This year, we choose Dinky.
One must-visit spot when we’re in Denver is Wynkoop Brewpub, one of the first of it’s kind in the country. As you can see, Sean is happy to get Palooza underway.
Bill, Sean, Craig, Dean and Al celebrate the start of another long weekend of Paloozian hijinks.
The first sporting event of Colopalooza 1998 is a Rockies game. And our first beers are delivered by a freaky beer vendor. Clearly this guy had a metal kazoo surgically implanted in his esophagus.
All Paloozians but Wreck know the simple pleasures of a hot bowl of Rocky Mountain Oysters (don’t ask). Here is B-Luv enjoying a delicious bowl of loving.
Apparently those oysters are a tad strong for our hero and he promptly settles in for a quick nap next to the oyster stand.
The next day, destiny brings the boys to "Granny's Country Inn"--easily the strangest “hotel” in Palooza history. Let's just say we openly wondered whether Granny had peddled more than just campfire pancakes back in the day.
Arriving along with Andy the night before, Milo quickly strikes a blow to Paloozian beer-loving pride by sipping an unusually high number of citrus-based drinks during the Buffs tailgate.
The Buffs break their losing streak and notch their first Paloozian win. It helps to schedule these things when Fresno St is in town.
After the game, the Paloozians make their way to Rio in Boulder for Mexican food and margaritas. It is here that Sean famously refuses to let Craig’s partially-chewed fajitas go to waste. Yuck!!
With the sweet scent of victory in the air, the Paloozians head to Mile High in heart-pounding anticipation of a first ever Palooza win sweep. The Broncos deliver by scoring an NFL-record five TDs in the first half vs Dallas. Another title would soon follow.
The original Mile High Stadium is a special place—full of odd characters, including “Barrel Man” and this flamboyantly dressed leprechaun.
This era of Broncos football is loaded with future Hall of Famers, including Shannon Sharpe who is the best receiving TE to ever play the game.
Another future Hall of Famer and Craig’s all-time favorite Broncos defender, Steve Atwater leaves the field after another dominating win.
One of the best coaches in NFL history, Mike Shanahan waves to the loyal South Stands fans on his way into the locker room.
Future Super Bowl XXXIII MVP, John Elway heads back to the locker in what would be the last time Smalls would see him play at Mile High.
Before heading to the airport and back to reality, the Paloozians stop off for some ice cream to reminisce about all the fun we had on this one.
